Definitely YES!
Strength or resistance training is all about challenging your muscles through resistance with bodyweight exercises, free weights, resistance bands, suspension straps and weight machines.
Developing and maintaining adequate muscle mass is one of the best ways to keep body fat in a healthy range, particularly as you age.
Still, most of the women spend their time in gym on cardiovascular exercises. No matter of your goals, resistance training is very important part of overall health.
Adding a little resistance brings health benefits for ladies:
- increases bone density and heart health,
- improves posture, balance and body composition,
- reduces stress, anxiety and lowers cholesterol,
- lower body fat and risk of certain diseases,
- improves sleep and muscle mass,
- – …
Starting with resistance training depends of your previous experience.
Don’t just jump into training without plan and supervision of personal trainer so you can learn proper form.
Always start with basic skills before you move to a regular weight training routine.

If you are not interested in going to a gym, you can still get a good resistance training with bodyweight exercises at home. Also, buying a pair of dumbbells and resistance bands are really good for start.
Focus on compound exercises such as squats, deadlifts/hinge, push-up, press or row either you work bodyweight or with some additional weights. Plan ahead you training routine with workout sessions and rest days.
Keep in mind that doing resistance training regularly helps us develop strength that we need in daily tasks – carrying a child, running for bus, picking up groceries.
And ladies, don’t worry about bulking up. It’s actually quite difficult to bulk up, as women have much less testosterone than men. I lift heavy weights for over decade and I’m far away from bulky.
Stay healthy and happy,
